Spread across three levels\, Louise and Ian’s garden surrounds their beautifully renovated 1961 home\, offering sweeping city views framed by distant mountains. \nWander through sculpted hedges\, vibrant flowering shrubs\, and thoughtfully placed pops of colour as you move from the sloping front garden through the recently renovated middle level and then out to the lower section. This redesign of the garden is a celebration of colour and form\, where an artful mix of plant species\, mostly non-natives\, create a striking and harmonious landscape. \nEvery corner of this garden tells a story. Personal touches are woven through the space\, making it more than just a garden—it’s a living gallery of memories. A lush green wall lines the driveway\, guiding visitors toward themed garden spaces bursting with seasonal colour. A rose-covered arch invites you into the orchard and vegetable garden. The garden also provides a habitat for the diverse bird life and insects.  A joy to provide and experience throughout the seasons. \nHighlights not to be missed include a tranquil sandstone water feature\, a trellis-clad wall\, and several whimsical topiaries—one in the shape of a Labrador\, sure to delight and inspire donations to Guide Dogs Australia\, the chosen charity for this event. SUMMARY:Cockle Street Garden
DESCRIPTION:Surrounding a house of classic mid-century modernist design\, visitors will enjoy wandering on paths through a gently sloping\, lawn-free front garden filled with Australian native plants and dominated by a massive old Willow Peppermint (Eucalyptus nicholii). Nearby\, two large Allocasuarinas and a large Kashmir Cypress form a backdrop to a pond and shelter the house. The block is large with plenty of room for the natives that were planted partly to encourage native birds – keep an eye out for the pardalote mound around the back. The back yard\, also lawn-free\, is where brick paths thread their way through a thriving citrus collection\, past beds of natives sheltering under a huge bottlebrush\, to a large area filled with potted herbs\, veggie beds\, fruit trees\, an experimental hedge of feijoas and hazelnuts and four tanks holding over 24\,000 L of water. Then on the north side of the house visitors will find another native plant area featuring sculptures and a large deck\, all sheltered by a mature White Cedar tree. Here you’ll find refreshments being served in what is a perfect spot to relax\, enjoy the bird life and reflect on what you’ve seen. \nNotes: \n\nStreet parking is reasonable.\nThe nearest toilets are at O’Connor shops.\nThe Lions Club will provide light refreshments.\nThe garden is mostly accessible to prams and wheelchairs.\nThere is a pond and a few low steps.\n\nSupported charity:  ACT Conservation Council \nGarden Notes \n  \n         \n

This garden may be short on space but is brimming with inspiring design and planting ideas! \nNotes \n\nStreet parking only.\nThe closest toilets are at Florey shops.\nThere will be a sale of handmade pots plus plants.\nMost of the garden is accessible to prams and walking frames.\nThere are a few steps near the pond.\n\nThis garden will open with Jinka Falls on the same ticket. DESCRIPTION:Jinka Falls is a newly established garden\, demonstrating what can be achieved with thoughtful design and determination in a small space.  Created in 2022/23\, Jinka Falls features two garden courtyards\, connected by a narrow side garden.  The first is a biodiversity hotspot with ponds connected by a small brook\, surrounded by soft native meadow planting and lush ferneries.  The second is a productive kitchen garden growing vegetables\, berries\, flowers\, and with a small orchard.  This garden demonstrates that\, even as our cities become denser there is always room to plant for beauty\, bounty and biodiversity. \nNotes: \n\nParking is on the street\, alternatively there is a carpark 500m away at Hawker shops.\nToilets are located at Hawker shops.\nThere will be baked treats\, tea and coffee.\nPlant sale.\nThere are a few steps.\nThere is a pond.\n\nThis garden will open with The Traveller’s Garden on the same ticket. DESCRIPTION:Set on a large sloping block with spectacular views\, this garden has been developing over the last 25 years.
