DESCRIPTION:This large naturalistic garden contains plants selected for hardiness in this exposed site and suitability for their 1880s cottage\, which was moved to this site in 1925. The owners have re-developed the garden using a large range of both native and exotic plants including spring bulbs\, unusual roses and Mediterranean shrubs and ground-covers. The garden includes very large pots used for water pots and feature plants. DESCRIPTION:Work commenced on this almost 1000 square metre property in April 1975 and has continued unabated since. The front garden consists of four terraces with the bottom terrace featuring a gabion wall and the top terrace being strongly influenced by the owners’ travels in Asia. Of particular note are the Torii gate\, spill bowl and 15 cut leaf maples of different varieties\, which turn to splendid reds and oranges in autumn.\nThe enclosed private back garden consists of a series of outdoor rooms – a back deck off the house with spa; an entertainment area off the guest studio; lawn area\, with dry stone creek and green walls; a Mediterranean style courtyard; a hidden service area; a Silver Birch forest; and a Fernery. DESCRIPTION:The Mitchell Community Garden is one of 12 community gardens operated by the Canberra Organic Growers Society (COGS) and has been operating since 1994. Gardeners are allocated individual plots\, which they put to productive use\, growing organic food for themselves and their families using sustainable organic gardening practices. DESCRIPTION:One acre of semi-formal gardens lies behind the 19th century restored two storey house. The Givenchy inspired gardens have been restored and developed during the last 20 years\, using original plants and material where possible. Ramps and steps lead down to large lawns dominated by a very large central arbour\, supporting roses (new dawn) and weeping cherry trees.\nThe property boundaries are dominated by very large trees\, mainly English elms and cypress (up to 140 years old)\, and a lilac hedge at the rear\, all providing a microclimate and a private atmosphere. The other features include a Japanese garden\, gazebo\, tea house and more than 200 roses. Other plants include maples\, gleditsias\, hawthorns\, bulb beds\, peonies\, pomegranates and espaliered fruit trees. The gardens’ extensive park-like setting is enhanced by a backdrop of the Brindabellas. \nTerroux garden notes2 are available. \nPlease DO NOT use GPS or Google maps to find us – they will lead you astray. \nComing from Canberra on the Barton Highway\, turn left into Wallaroo Road.\nAfter 7.5 km turn right into Oakey Creek Road.\nAfter 1.5kms turn right into Rochford Road (dirt road).\nAfter 0.88 km ( after going down through a small gully) turn right through an open gateway (nos 88 and 90 on corner gatepost)\, come over two cattle grids)\, turn left though a brick entrance at number 88 and Terroux is on the top of the hill.\nAllow about 15 minutes from when you turn into Wallaroo Road.\nDrive slowly up the last part of the journey as the road is rough dirt. It looks like a dirt road but is actually the shared drive for the properties along the way after you turn into the gate.\nWallaroo Road is about 15 minutes from Civic. SUMMARY:The Garden Cottage
DESCRIPTION:This pretty and romantic garden features seven open areas\, each containing a different sort of ornament\, seating or gazebo. These areas are connected by paved paths\, lined with English and Japanese box\, which offer no-step access to the whole block. The garden has grown out of the owners’ love of history\, and is filled with many useful\, often rare\, plants\, so that every corner has interest. Every garden bed is also filled with ground covers\, bulbs and perennials offering interest throughout the year and gentle fireworks in spring. The garden is a source of supplies for craft\, dying\, fibre art\, and cooking and is an inspiration for the owners’ historical costume\, dance and music hobby.  Dancers and musicians from the Earthly Delights Historic Dance Academy will be performing at 11.00am\, 12.15pm and 1.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday. DESCRIPTION:These two standard sized gardens have been developed over 30 years. Anne’s garden incorporate numerous open beds at the front and back\, featuring a wide variety of perennials and shrubs\, vegetables and fruit trees. Dana’s garden next door is largely dedicated to the production of fruit and vegetables through the seasons. \nThe garden on Anne’s flat block comprises a system of well maintained beds set out to maximise the floral and foliage display and viewing and exposure to sunlight. The large variety of plants provides much interest. There is a zone dedicated to productive vegetables (using raised wicking beds) and fruit trees. \nDana’s garden is noteworthy in its systematic layout of vegetables\, herbs\, fruit trees and berries. There is a large variety of fruit and at least 25 different vegetables and herbs and 15 species of fruit. These are all designed and displayed to maximise exposure to sunlight. Production is planned for all four seasons.
