The gardens started as a concept in the overall design for a new park on the old railway goods yard in Queanbeyan, with the support of the Canberra Organic Growers Society (COGS) and the former Queanbeyan City Council.  The garden has 24 beds for rent and several styles of raised beds for people with limited mobility including people using wheelchairs.  Six small wicking beds were added in 2020. There are also beds for growing common produce including herbs and vegetables, berries, as well as flowers, and several fruit trees – apricot, fig, plum, feijoa, pears and lemon. There is a central composting system and four worm farms.  Gardeners work together at monthly working bees and to host open days in autumn and spring.

The Railway Park Organic Community Garden will be open to all on Saturday 23 October only, from 10am till 4pm.  Entry is free.  Gold coin donations will be accepted.

Eventbrite booking is not required.  However, names and contact numbers will be taken according to Covid control requirements and numbers will be managed.

Visitors will be guided through the plots and facilities.  Light refreshments will be available.
